Permanent makeup or PMU is when a micro-pigmentation is implanted into the skin, either by a hand tool or a machine. Essentially, permanent makeup is a tattoo that resembles makeup to enhance a certain feature of your face, such as beautiful brows.
I get asked all the time about the differences between microbladed/shaded and tattooed eyebrows, or semi-permanent vs permanent eyebrows. It has some of the same qualities, yet it is very different. These days, the terms typically refer to the same thing: placing medical grade pigment just under the skin to create the look of hair strokes or powder like make up. Since they are cosmetic treatments, they are not as deep as traditional tattoos, and the pigment fades over time, unlike traditional tattoo inks that remain in the dermal layer forever. With Semi-permanent technique with proper depth by the artist, the color heals and stays more natural color than a traditional tattoo which heals as a hue of blue/gray.
At Dream Beauty By Nida, the procedures are performed under sterile conditions, using only disposable needle cartridges and with digitally controlled implantation device. There are no long-term side effects; short-term effects may include some redness, swelling, and tenderness.
NO! Microblading and Ombre Brows are done using a cosmetic tattooing process and our eyebrow pigmentation unique artistry resulting in soft, natural looking eyebrows. When we implant pigment in the skin, it appears more natural looking than even topically applied cosmetics.
We will evaluate your skin type, your brows and what look you are wanting to determine if microblading, ombre brows, or a combo brow is best for you! You can always discuss your options in person by scheduling a consultation first.
We choose a shape and style together. At the beginning of the procedure, we will draw in a suggested shape for your new brows then we will work together to perfect it according to your preference. Measurements are taken to check symmetry and position and you're approval is required before the actual cosmetic tattooing begins.
We choose a color together by looking at the swatched color chart of all the pigments. We can also apply small amounts of different colored pigments to the skin near to your brows and selecting the best match for your skin tone, features and personal preference. Each eyebrow is 100% customized to YOU, there is no one color fits all and that is the beauty of having colors to choose from. The colors can me mixed up to 1-3 colors to get the perfect match.
Will it Hurt?
We take every precaution necessary to ensure the micro-pigmentation application is as pain free as possible. A wide range of medical grade anesthetics are used for your comfort. Some clients find the procedure a little uncomfortable, whereas other clients report no discomfort at all and sometimes fall asleep during the process. A combination of 2 anesthetics are used, first a topical numbing cream and then a local anesthetic is applied once the microblading or shading procedure has started. This is topped up regularly during the treatment to keep you comfortable. Similar to our other PMU services.
Investing an 2 or 3 hours of your time can make you beautiful for years to come. Although sometimes it does not take all of the 3 hours, we make sure that time is blocked for your appointment to give you the right amount of time to complete without any rush. Sometimes it does not take the whole 3 hours. The amount of time it takes will depend on the shaping process, the clients skin type and how well the pigment is implanted in the skin and how the skin takes it. The procedure is split into 2 appointments (2nd appointment is the touch up), which are 6-8 weeks apart to allow for the healing process to complete. The initial procedure will take from 2-3hrs, and your second appointment takes from about 1hr.
Many clients can walk right out the door, ready to show off their new brows. Initially stronger in color, your new brows will soften to a natural looking and beautiful color in two to three weeks. Working out or sweating shouldn't be done for about 10-14 day because it effects the healing process. There should also no makeup be used directly on the eyebrows.
Your brows may be a little swollen, red and sometimes a bit white halo around the brows. This is all very normal. They will be considerably darker for the first week, before they begin to fade out to a softer color.
The area can be a little sore for the first few hours and then tender to the touch for a couple of days.
Generally, Yes but it is not required. It would be recommended to schedule a touch up after 6-8 wks address and issues, corrections you might want with color or shape, or just to add more color to the eyebrows. A touch up is the perfecting sessions, which allows you to chance to make any adjustments to your eyebrows. You can always go darker with color at this appointment if you started with a lighter color during your initial appointment. Some clients might love the way their brows healed and might not feel the they need a touch up. However, brows can last longer if you get your touch up because there will be more color implanted in the skin.
This varies from person to person and depends on whether or not you get the recommended touch up/ second session within 8 weeks of the first session but on average they last from 12-years after your initial semi-permanent brow session.
Your body’s skin changes over time and so will any permanent makeup coloration implanted in to the skins layers. However, this natural fading process takes years and touch ups at 1 year or 2 years are easily done as your color fades over time. How fast it fades also depends on skin type (oily vs dry), texture, routine, life style, activities such as heavily working out, and sun exposure without using sun screen on your eyebrows. You should stay away from acids, strong scrubs and retinol products on or near the brows, as they will prematurely fade your permanent tattoo.
Although the procedure is considered semi-permanent, these procedures do have flexibility in changing color and shape to some extent. Colors will appear much darker immediately following the procedure but will often soften and lighten during the healing process. The healing time is different for each individual and remember it takes time to adjust to a new look!
BROW SHOCK is a REAL THING! Just be patient and trust the process - beautiful things take time.
This is a question I get asked all the time, and it is more straight forward than you may think.
There isn’t any need for ‘downtime’ after the treatment, and there is no need to take off two weeks from work (unless you need an excuse for some well needed R&R!
Microblading or shading does not directly affect your ability to work, and it’s more a question of how you will feel (concerning your appearance) when your brows go through a healing phase. This is because the appearance of your brows will keep changing until two weeks have passed.
Here’s what to expect day-by-day:
But if you are feeling worried about going to work and being face-to-face with others, it is around day 5-10 whereby your brows may look a little more patchy as the skin is healing, at this point you may make a judgement call as to whether or not you want to head into the office!
My top tip to getting around brow healing without taking time off work, is to wear more eye makeup, lipstick (or if the sun is out - big sunglasses!) to draw attention away from your brows.
The brow process is a (2 ) step process and is broken into the initial appointment and recommended touch up (see pricing information below).
The skin takes some time to heal after a semi-permanent brow treatment.
During that period, your eyebrows will go through several phases.
The first touch up, after the initial appointment, consists of adding additional strokes or color where the pigment didn’t settle properly.
The touchup is there to correct all the possible imperfections. Its purpose is to fix what didn't take in the skin during the healing period. It’s also an opportunity to make some modifications, in case you feel the color or shape of the arches isn’t quite right yet. If at 4 wks you are healed and don't feel that you do not need a touch up, you do not have to schedule one.
Microblading - Combo Brows - Ombre brows
This includes the options of Microblading, Combo brows (Microblading & Shading), and Ombre Brows. Your artist will recommend the best brow options and styles during your appointment, taking into account your expectations, skin type, and lifestyle for long-lasting results.
Perfecting Session - The touchup is there to correct all the possible imperfections. Its purpose is to fix what didn't take in the skin during the healing period. It’s also an opportunity to make some modifications, in case you feel the color or shape quite right yet. If at 4 wks you are healed and don't feel that you need a touch up, you do not have to schedule one.
A touch-up is essential for maintaining your brows appearance and ensuring the pigment's longevity from the initial session. Over time, eyebrows naturally fade, and touch-ups every 1-3 years allow for adjustments and a refreshed look. For current clients only.

Results will vary with each individual client and are extremely dependent on how one heals. Successful results are not guaranteed (especially on those with problematic skin, poor aftercare, or those who do not get the recommended touch up) and additional sessions, at an additional charge, may be required to obtain desired results. Although I use premium products and provide quality service, every client heals differently and many factors can lead to varied results.
All services are non-refundable.
Healed results will vary with each individual client and using a pencil or powder may still be needed. We have no control over what occurs during the healing process. Absolutely NO guarantee will be made and additional sessions may be required to obtain optimal results. Additional charges will apply.
You may experience discomfort, mild pain/sensitivity, swelling, and redness immediately following the procedure. The feeling you will experience may resemble a similar sensation as a sunburn. These initial symptoms should subside within 1-3 days. Avoid the sun, heavy exercise/sweating, direct contact, and wetting for the first 10 days after the procedure.
DAYS 1-3
At first, the initial treated areas will appear darker, bolder, and more defined than the final result. Please be aware of this and do not worry, as the final appearance will soften after the healing process is finished.
DAYS 4-10
Around day 4 or 5, your brows will begin to scab and flake. DO NOT scratch or remove the scabs. Please note that picking, scratching, or removing healing skin from your tattoo may result in loss of pigmentation. They will fall off on their own and any adjustments needed will be corrected during your touch-up.
DAY 10 THROUGH TOUCH-UP
Your eyebrows will lighten up and you will feel like your eyebrows are "gone." The color will pull through and come back to surface as time goes by until you come in for your touchup. You may resume exercise, sun exposure (used sunscreen on the eyebrows to prevent color fading) , wetting (showers, facial cleansing, etc.) at your own discretion when your tattoo is done scabbing. They will appear lighter and softer and may darken slightly as the skin regenerates and fully heals. Patchiness or loss of pigment will be addressed and corrected during your touch-up.
